Road Race Training & Time Trials
Selected and potential Olympic athletes from Cycle Teams and Triathlon Teams can be hosted in training groups for road cycle training outside the boundaries of Torbay.
Training rides of 30 miles (48.28 Km) to 100 miles (160.93 Km) or more will be organised by Mid Devon Cycling Club, which is based in South Devon.
Massed Start Road Race Training | Time Trial Training
Mid Devon Cycling Club has overwhelming experience of promoting road massed start and time trial races in Devon. Six former national champions are available to lead training groups.
Members of the club would drive a lead car in front of a training group and a back up support vehicle behind the group. From the edge of Torbay there is access to highways with low traffic densities in rural locations. An example training route would use mainly quiet roads to Whiddon Down and generally traffic free roads north of Okehampton for a variety of training ride distances over varied terrain. (Flat, rolling hills, and hilly).
Mid Devon Cycling Club has arranged road closures for circuit races in various parts of Devon. With recent highway improvements, a section of the old A30 could be closed for Pre-Olympic training groups.
Mid Devon Cycling Club organises the Spring Pursuits, a series of three handicap road races of 30-40 miles, the Totnes/Vire 3 Stage Road Race of 130 miles and two evening events.
60-70 competitors compete in each of these regional events. The Club also organises open regional time trials comprising a 23 mile hilly time trial, 3 x 10 miles, 2 x 25 miles, and a 50 mile and 100 mile time trial.
Colin Lewis, a Mid Devon Cycling Club member, has hosted numerous training camps in Majorca, France and Italy, with a maximum group size of 12 riders. He competed for Great Britain in the Tokyo Olympic Games and was double National Professional Champion. Colin has completed two Tours de France, so has a wealth of experience of the needs of the Olympic athletes.
Colin will tailor training group needs to the wishes of National Cycling Team coaches. Colin Lewis Cycles, operated by expert mechanic Simon Aske, will provide specialist cycle equipment for the needs of athletes.
